Buckhorn's was built in the 1940s and was named for a French fur trader who lived in the area. For about fifty years, it was known as a tavern that served food for the local residents who came to swim and fish in the lake. The current owners bought Buckhorn in 1997.
We sat in the very busy bar while waiting for our table. Of course the group ordered Brandy Old-Fashioneds.
After a little bit we were seated. We requested an outdoor table, and it did not disappoint. The weather was perfect and the sun was starting to set over the lake.

Now let's talk about the important points - the food! The menu was small, but had several choices - seafood, steak, chicken, and sandwiches. Saturday's special was the New York Strip with fresh mushrooms. Once we finally ordered (the group was a bit chit-chatty, haha!), our soups/salads and bread basket came. The bread basket came with cheese spread, always a big hit with the group. The salad came with huge tomato wedges, which I personally love.

We waited a very long time for our entrees to come out. From the time we sat down, til the time the food arrived, an hour and a half had passed. Don't know if this is common, o if they were just extra busy.
I ordered the Chicken Bruschetta - twin broiled chicken breasts topped with mozzarella cheese and bruschetta. It came with a baked potato. I ate the entire plate, and it didn't disappoint one bit.
Skyler ordered the Prime Rib sandwich with fries. It was huge.
Serena ordered the Prime Rib with Asparagus.
David ordered the New York Strip with Asparagus.
I don't know exactly what Ruth ordered, but it looked yummy.
Everyone in the group loved their meals, no complaints. And I think only one person took leftovers home. That's how good the food was.
Between the company, the food, and the scenery, it really was the perfect Wisconsin summer night. So let's go through the checklist to score Buckhorn's:
1. Prime Rib specials are served every Saturday night. No. They serve prime rib every night they're open. But it's actually a special on Sunday night.
2. A relish tray is served.
Nope
3. Manhattans and Old-Fashioned cocktails are served with Brandy.
Yes
4. Jell-O is served as a salad option.
No
5. Walleye is a regular menu item.
Yes, broiled or deep fried.
6. All-you-can-eat fried fish on Friday nights.
No. They have Cod dishes on Friday, but they aren't all-you-can-eat.
7. Grasshopper and Pink Cadillac cocktails are large enough to share.
I don't know. We didn't even think about dessert.
8. Christmas lights are strung along structures year-round.
When I walked in the door, there were colored lights in the dining room.
9. The Waitresses call you "Hon"
Our waitress didn't, but I'm sure there is some employee there that would.
10. The club has a scenic view of our beautiful state.
Umm.....duh! Yes, the scenery was beautiful. See pictures above.
Buckhorn's receives a total score of 6 out of 10. With the only common complaint being that our food took a long time to arrive. And prices were reasonable (for steak and seafood).
